Blu-ray getting affordable!

The Blu-Ray industry seems intent on committing suicide. They have piled on so many fees that it necessarily results in expensive media. Seems stupid to me. They may well get away with it over the long run but they may have also picked the wrong time in history to play hard ball. At the very least, I believe the economy will put a serious damper on the spread of Blu-Ray.

In the above post, I question whether Blu-ray discs offer enough of a noticeable difference to make the expense worthwhile in light of today's upconverting players.

If you have customers who express an interest in Blu-ray delivery and you can find a way to offer it to them profitably, then it's a good way to be sure you're delivering the highest practical level of quality whether you think it matters or not. This may also call for some experimentation and knowledge-sharing by all of us to determine how to make a Blu-ray disc which is visibly better to customers than a good SD DVD.

Now that most people are getting HDTVs and HD programming.....it's very difficult to switch between channels and watch the fuzz anymore.

Fortunately I don't have time for TV anymore but my flat panel REALLY brings out the pixels of DV that CRT's seem to nicely cover up.

I suppose that if the price of SD cards drops faster than Blue Ray Media they could give it a fight but I think most people will be buying Blue Ray disks and renting from Netflix in that format.

On demand should become the norm but that will likely take another 20years to complete.

Backing up video to SD cards?  Hmmmmmm.....at least for DV that's a pretty viable option.  Maybe on 2 brands just in case?

Our real problem is going to be when formats are changing every 3 years.....then nothing is permanent.  Documentary film makers are already complaining that there will be no pictures in the future because people lose them all when their computers crash.

I haven't had time to experiment, between commercial shoots, editing the last wedding video and the immense job of getting our last rental house ready - there just hasn't been time.

I am learning the ins and outs of DIY house repair though.  Between the house leveling, replacing all under-the-house plumbing and electrical repairs, the bill would have come to over four thousand dollars if using professionals.  I did all those things myself for about two hundred dollars.  (Of course I had to do each task two or three times before I got it right, and it took me two weeks where pros would have finished in two days, but...

Next week, I'm tiling a huge kitchen counter.  Oh wait, wrong topic...where's the Handyman board?
