Still can't decide between CMOS and CCD? Anthony Burokas "CCD Versus CMOS" article may be a tad late, but it is the best I've read on the subject - don't miss it!
Kelly's "thenonlinear editor" seemingly didn't have enough interesting content to go the full two pages, but check out http://filmfellas.tv when you get the chance.
I checked out the tenth episode. The editing is terrible, with needlessly quick and numerous cuts, so you may want to cover the window and just listen like it was a podcast. Even then, it would be nice to have a more edited version, it's difficult to keep a live conversation between four people, lively, but there is occasionally interesting stuff here.
"Cinevate Pegasus camera dolly system", by Ron Dawson, is written from the perspective of a small video production company, and the thing is fairly affordable($770), so I think most of you will find it interesting. If you're doing business shoots, or even if you aspire to do business shoots, some sort of dolly system is a must.
"Sivan HV-05 Mini DV Camera Stabilizer", by Philip Hinkle, is another interesting review. This stabilizer doubles as a shoulder mount and is priced at $600. Hinkle tests during an actual wedding shoot, which is great, but I wish Philip could have compared it to a more popular stabilizer like Glidecam, rather than the DVMultiRig stabilizer.
A quick update on the cabling and adapter world, from a videographer's viewpoint is provided by Lee Rickwood's "Gear Now" article.
I skipped over the Final Cut tutorial, being a PC guy, and ditto on Alan Naumann's article about how to make money on VHS tapes (perhaps this should have been in the September 1999 issue?)
No wedding videographer should miss Elizabeth Avery Merfeld's "Save the Date" five-page article. Kudos to event DV for giving authors sufficient space to cover their topics!
You must also read Steve Yankee's "Strictly Business" article about getting video on your website and "do's and don'ts" of your web video. I'll disagree with Steve about not showing a smiling bride, but I'm onboard with the rest of this well-written article!
Interested in Extreme Concept wedding videography? Then Stephen Nathans-Kelly's three pages are a must-read.
I'm usually a fan of Jan Ozer, but since his article this month is about Final Cut Studio, I'll take a pass.
All-in-all, September 2009 Event DV is another issue worth many times it's cover price to all event and wedding videographers.
If you're looking for their website, it's eventdv.net Don't make the mistake I did (after remembering that the .com is a commercial videographer site) and go to eventdv.org which inexplicably is a pdf (beautifully done) of its 2005 "All Stars". (Someone remind Steve about this!) |
